One Thousand Gifts – Book Review and Giveaway!

Posted on: October 10th, 2013 by Laurie Coombs 5 Comments

This will be the first of what I hope to be many book reviews and book giveaways on my blog. I hope to do one book a month, but I want you to know something right from the start. I am only interested in telling you about books I have personally read and believe in. So, rest assured, the books I tell you about will be GOOD! (And by the way, I don’t receive any compensation for these posts––or any for that matter––so I have no anterior motives.)

There’s an amazing book I’d like to tell you about today. It’s a book that truly has the power to help transform your thinking, and consequently your life. And I don’t say this lightly.

One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are, written by Ann Voskamp, is a treasure we each should take the time to read. The book has become a best seller, being on the New York Times Bestseller list, USAToday Bestseller list, as well as being a Top Ten Bestseller on Amazon. And for good reason. The message entrusted to Ann is one we need.

Ann Voskamp, One Thousand Gifts, Book Review, One Thousand Gifts Book Review, Christian book, Good Christian Books, Thankfulness, Thanksgiving, Book Giveaway, Giveaway, fight for joy, joy thanksgiving, joy, how do I find peace, how do i find joy, bestselling book, Christ, Jesus, God, gratitude, journal, gratitude journal, count gifts, gifts, gift god, fight for joy, live life well,

I once heard it said that the level of joy you experience is directly related to the level of thanksgiving in your heart. I believe this to be true.

In One Thousand Gifts, Ann writes about her own personal fight for joy. About the process Jesus brought her through to teach her how to live life differently, moving past difficulties and pain. To stay awake. To deliberately see the beauty before her. And to finally awake to the wonder of the small.

Throughout this book, Ann takes us along with her on a journey as she learns to slow down, to trust, and to find joy through thanksgiving, finally freeing her to live the one life she’s been given well. At the Lord’s leading, Ann begins to keep a gratitude journal in which she begins counting the gifts she’s given, both big and small, and she challenges us to do the same in what she calls “the joy dare.”

Take a moment, watch the book trailer below, and consider whether God intends this message for you.

I would like to read it based on your comments.  Also I think my daughter would benefit from reading it.   If the random generator picks me I would like for Ms  Whittamore to have it.

I would like to read this book because I am always running around like everything is an emergency and has to get done right now or it won’t get done at all and if I don’t do it who is going to do it?!!  I’ve heard so many great things about this book and have been hoping to read it.
